The celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Catartica, the debut album by Marlene Kuntz, continue. It is considered a true milestone in the history of Italian music.

Released on May 13, 1994, Catartica undoubtedly made its mark on our musical landscape. With the excellent production by Lega and Maroccolo (CCCP and CSI) for the then-nascent independent label Consorzio Produttori Indipendenti, the 14 memorable songs that make up the album were the answer to the insatiable hunger for a different sound that the Italian audience of the early ’90s was experiencing, influenced by American and British models that were producing grunge and hardcore bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam at the time.

Catartica was the first Italian album to satisfy this hunger for change, thus paving a new path in independent rock and significantly renewing the musical scene in our country.

Catartica is the musical manifesto of the band that made things clear from the start: guitar lines that would go on to inspire countless bands, a sound that immediately became an absolute symbol of that musical decade, and songwriting that had never been heard before. Godano’s refined poetry strikes everyone immediately: unusual terms, a very verbose and fascinatingly poetic narrative rich in imaginative images and antisocial lyrics that gave rise to unforgettable phrases that became cult. A raw and direct language, in short, that describes, without ever trivializing, the modern life of that time, yet remains incredibly relevant today.
