Motel Chronicles gathers autobiographical fragments and hallucinations, poetry and photographs, along with references to films and songs that have shaped the collective imagination, creating a work that captures within its words some of the most significant evocations of Western culture.
A brilliant interpreter of contemporary cinema and theater, Sam Shepard revisits the crucial places of his life, and with his restless writing, he explores the rawest linguistic registers of a complex and diverse people: from the plaster dinosaurs of the Badlands to the pearly white teeth of Burt Lancaster, from the cowboy feeding canaries and a mule before collapsing into a catatonic state, to evenings spent with Nina Simone and the red velvet rooms of luxury motels.
Throughout the journey, one single, inexhaustible truth prevails: we live to know ourselves.
Emidio Clementi and Corrado Nuccini complete a musical and literary trilogy that began with the urban America of the early 1900s through Emanuel Carnevali, continued with T.S. Eliot’s poetic masterpiece Four Quartets, and now comes full circle with Motel Chronicles, featuring a new literary adaptation of Sam Shepard’s texts.
Joining them are exceptional musicians such as Emanuele Reverberi, Stefano Pilia, Francesca Bono, Fabio Rondanini, Mattia Cipolli, Laura Agnusdei, Jonathan Clancy, and many more.
Live on stage, Emidio Clementi, Corrado Nuccini, Emanuele Reverberi, and Francesca Bono will present the album in its entirety, crafting a performance that dives straight into the heart of Sam Shepard’s America—the world of Harry Dean Stanton, Paris, Texas, and Wim Wenders—but also into a realm of consciousness that can be found in any vast landscape, any solitary place, and any journey in search of oneself.
Scheduled Performance: Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 10:30 PM – KME OFF
