Three events, three cities, and three pivotal moments in Italian and international culture come together in a collective narrative that blends cinema, documentary, and live music in the \u201cSound and Vision\u201d series, organized by Vox Day under the artistic direction of Davide Catinari, as part of the broader Karel Music Expo project.<\/p>

The event, taking place in the Sala Ritratti of Palazzo Siotto in Cagliari from February 20 to March 14, 2026, delves into the heart of Italian subcultures and explores the inseparable connection between urban identity and sonic avant-garde. Auteur cinema, live interventions with distinguished guests, performances, and music will serve as a compass for a transversal, boundary-pushing journey in which the audience is invited to recognize themselves and reflect, in a constant dialogue between the memories of the past and the redefinitions of the present. \u201cSound and Vision,\u201d a tribute to David Bowie on the tenth anniversary of his death, is an invitation to rediscover the deep pulse of cities through the sounds that have shaped them, offering an immersive exploration of the musical revolutions in Florence, Bologna, and Rome. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The program kicks off on February 20 with the screening of “Uscivamo molto la notte” by Stefano Pistolini<\/strong>. Florence, dawn of the 1980s. The city awakens from its aristocratic torpor to become the cradle of the \u201cRock Renaissance.\u201d The film is not just a documentary but a hypnotic stream of previously unseen footage capturing the underground energy of clubs like Tenax and Manila. Guided by Bruno Casini, the cultural “engine” of the era, and the voices of Piero Pel\u00f9 (Litfiba) and Federico Fiumani (Diaframma), we witness the birth of the Italian new wave. The film explores how a generation managed to transform both aesthetics and sound, moving from electronic experimentation to the hedonism of a city that, for a decade, felt like the center of the European creative world. It is the chronicle of a fleeting but vital creative fire that forever changed the cultural DNA of Florence. . Joining the evening is director, journalist, and TV writer Stefano Pistolini, who will engage in conversation with the audience alongside journalist Claudio Loi.<\/strong><\/p>

The evening concludes with a live set by Alessandro and Ludovico Muroni. <\/strong>Alessandro Muroni, singer-songwriter, musician, and artistic director of the Aut Out Aut festival, has released four albums with Charme de Caroline (Tronos) and authored two books (Arkadia) with forewords by Umberto Piersanti, Rocco Familiari, Silvio Raffo, and Andrea Chimenti. Active since the 1990s in the Sassari new wave scene with Chance, Curtains Doll, and as a keyboardist\/drummer in the post-punk band Atro. Ludovico Sebastian Muroni, trumpeter and horn player for Charme de Caroline, Magnificat, and the Conservatory of Cagliari, has also performed trumpet in several Sardinian concerts with Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi (La Crus). <\/p>

With the second stop of the series on February 27<\/strong>, the focus shifts to the electric Bologna of the post-1977 era, a city suspended between radical political engagement and the desire to escape. On screen: \u201cGoing Underground<\/strong>\u201d by Lisa Bosi<\/strong>, the story of Gaznevada, a band that captured the pivotal transition from absurdist rock to the most sophisticated underground scene.
Through their perspective, the film evokes the golden age of the Dams, the visions of Andrea Pazienza, and the arrival of punk records from London that swept away the hippie legacy. It is a raw and honest account where music becomes both a refuge from repression and a reflection of the generational drama of heroin. Gaznevada are witnesses to a city-as-laboratory where art was life and life was a daring gamble, told through tight editing that avoids any easy nostalgia. Joining the evening is music producer Oderso Rubini, with an introduction by Claudio Loi. <\/strong><\/p>

Followed by a performance by Perry Frank<\/strong>, blending ethereal sounds, sophisticated musical textures, and immersive atmospheres that invite reflection and relaxation. Perry Frank\u2019s live shows are unique experiences where music becomes an all-encompassing sensory journey. Using visual projections and ambient effects, Perry Frank creates moments in which music merges with the surrounding environment, encouraging the audience to fully immerse themselves in the sonic experience. Each performance is a unique interpretation of how sound can shape atmosphere and spatial perception. <\/p>

The \u201cSound and Vision\u201d series concludes on March 14 with “Rome As You Are” by Daniela Giombini, Tino Franco, and Marco Porsia<\/strong>. The film documents the unique moment of the Nirvana\u2019s Italian tour before they became a global phenomenon. The protagonist is Daniela Giombini, the woman who, with a mix of courage and recklessness, brought Kurt Cobain to Italy. Through memories of the legendary concert at Piper and the overflowing show at Arena Castello, the documentary follows Bruce Pavitt (founder of Sub Pop) on his return to Rome. Together, they revisit the everyday places frequented by the band, from the trattoria where they had pizza before the live show to the music store where Kurt Cobain bought the guitar he would later destroy on stage. The soundtrack, intentionally free of Nirvana tracks and featuring the Italian indie scene, preserves the DIY spirit of grunge, making the film an authentic and edgy work. Joining the evening are director, journalist, and promoter Daniela Giombini and radio author Dario Calfapietra. Film critic Greta Boschetto introduces the event and engages in conversation with the guests. <\/strong><\/p>

The event closes with <\/strong>a live performance by the duo Don Leone<\/strong>, delivering a compelling show where visceral and minimalist blues becomes a true sonic ritual, rooted in tradition but imbued with a rebellious, contemporary spirit. The Sardinian duo, formed in 2016, consists of Donato Cherchi (vocals and harmonica) and Matteo Leone (guitar and drums). Their raw and direct sound blends the Mississippi swamps with the red soil of Sardinia. Known for their electrifying live energy, they won the Italian Blues Challenge 2017 and represented Italy at both the European and International Blues Challenge, leaving a lasting impression with performances full of pathos.
