The workshop is free of charge, and at the end of the course, all participants who attend at least 4 sessions will receive a certificate of participation.

Objectives

Stimulate creativity and craftsmanship through the construction of musical instruments.

Promote reading in an interactive way, using music as a vehicle for narrative exploration.

Create a connection between physical travel and sound travel, exploring sounds from different cultures.

Develop collaboration and teamwork through the formation of a small orchestra.

Increase awareness of the importance of sound and music in storytelling and artistic expression.

The Sessions

1st Session – Tuesday, September 9th
The session will begin with a sound demonstration dedicated to discovering the “hidden sound” of material objects, with particular attention to the use of paper and books. Participants will witness a performance by the instructor in which the book is not just a medium for reading but becomes a musical instrument and expressive tool. From the sound of the book object, the focus will shift to the voice, with a reading aloud of selected passages, exploring the sonic and interpretive potential of the text.
Next, the instructor will present and play instruments created from recycled materials, providing concrete examples of how everyday objects can be transformed into original sound devices. Participants will then be invited to imagine and design their own instruments to be constructed during the workshop.

2nd Session – Wednesday, September 10th
The session will begin with the reading aloud of new passages from the texts accompanying the workshop, offering participants another opportunity to explore sound through words. Next, the instructor will demonstrate musical techniques with string instruments he has personally created, highlighting the expressive potential of simple and recycled materials.
Each participant, with the instructor’s support, will define a personalized project idea, considering which materials can be used to complete and optimize the construction of their instrument.

3rd Session – Wednesday, September 17th
The session will begin with a reading aloud of selected passages from the reference texts, continuing the journey of listening to and interpreting words as a sonic and collective experience.
Next, the workshop will move into its practical phase: each participant will begin building their own instrument using the collected leftover materials. Guided by the instructor, participants will create rudimentary but functional musical instruments, inspired by the sound traditions of the world. This activity will be an opportunity to experiment hands-on with the creative transformation of matter into sound, emphasizing ingenuity, culture, and individual expression.

4th Session – Friday, September 19th
The session will begin with the usual reading aloud of passages from the reference texts, continuing to accompany and inspire the workshop work through the evocative power of words.
Participants will then continue building their instruments, delving into technical and sonic aspects. With the support of the instructor, each participant will have the opportunity to refine their creation, testing its functionality and making any adjustments to improve its acoustic performance and expressiveness.

5th Session – Wednesday, September 24th
The session will begin with a new reading aloud, with passages selected from the reference texts, continuing to explore the connection between words and sound in an expressive and participatory way.
Next, participants will finalize the construction of their instruments, making the final structural and aesthetic adjustments. Once the building phase is complete, there will be a sound test of the instruments: a moment for practical verification and discovery of the timbral potential of each creation. In conclusion, the first integration rehearsals between text reading and the sound produced by the self-built instruments will begin, experimenting with a direct dialogue between voice, rhythm, and material.

6th Session – Friday, September 26th
The final session will be dedicated to a final jam session, where reading and sound will merge in a collective performance. The orchestra of voices and sounds will be the concluding act of the workshop, where participants will experience reading as a form of collective harmony, accompanied by sound.
The voice and self-built instruments will become part of a single soundscape, creating a moment of sharing in which words and music intertwine. We will work together on rhythms, tonalities, and nuances, with the goal of creating a choral melody made of uniqueness: each voice and each sound will contribute to forming a common, expressive, and authentic sonic story.

The Hidden Sound Free workshop led by Nicola Agus Activities promoting reading, creative recycling, and sounds from around the world.09 | 10 | 17 | 19 | 24 | 26 September – from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM The workshop “The Hidden Sound” was created with the idea of combining literature and music through a […]

[102,133

post-10342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-en","category-workshop
["GET
