Micah P. Hinson

Micah Paul Hinson is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. As a teenager, Hinson found inspiration in music, listening to industrial and alternative bands like “Skinny Puppy”, “My Bloody Valentine”, and “The Jesus and Mary Chain”. He started playing guitar with his older brother, composing songs inspired by those sounds. On his brother’s advice, he then switched to acoustic guitar, while still maintaining the raw intensity that continues to define his music today.
The turning point came when his friend John Mark Lapham (of “The Earlies”) played his songs for a London-based record label. Finally, Hinson signed a contract and recorded his debut album, “Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress”. Released in 2004, the album received immediate success and earned him a loyal following in Europe. His subsequent nine albums received similar acclaim, establishing Hinson as one of the most original and interesting songwriters in the international alt-folk scene. His songs are milestones marking different moments of his life: from the turbulent days of his youth to the recent years as a devoted husband and father.
The only song written after turning 40 is “Ignore the Days”. The song serves as a bridge between the past and his new life, looking toward the future: it thus becomes a powerful reminder of an important turning point in his life.
